Introduction

Research Interest

We are interested in understanding the principles of motor control through observation of motor behavior changes before and after motor learning or adaptation. Current studies on motor adaptation are conducted by altering visual feedback of the trajectory from a reaching task through WACOM tablet and OASIS software. The main issues are to understand the changes after adaptation in relation to joint coordination and motor control parameters. We hope to extend the knowledge of motor learning and adaptation to clinical application for the patients with CNS lesions.

 Instruments

Motion Analysis

We use a 6-camera motion system (ProReflex, QUALYSIS) to capture the motion at the sampling rate of 240 Hz. After reconstructing the coordinates of the markers, further analysis is conducted offline by other computational software.

WACOM tablet

We record the trajectory of the pen tip by a WACOM tablet. The trajectory is then processed by OASIS software. According to the experimental design, the trajectory can be scaled or rotated and then displayed on a computer monitor or on a head mounted display.
